Challenge

As Monti expanded from basic, single-level part production to intricate assemblies involving multi-level BOMs, their manual, paper-based management systems became increasingly unsustainable. The company faced critical challenges in maintaining efficient job scheduling, achieving high-precision inventory control, preventing missed operations and providing accurate, timely order information to customers. These limitations hindered Monti's ability to support its growth and deliver on customer expectations in a highly specialized manufacturing environment.

Results

By implementing Global Shop Solutions ERP, Monti transformed its production processes with automated scheduling, precise inventory management and real-time job tracking. The company reduced late shipments to near zero, managed over $1 million in inventory with tight .0005 inch tolerances and gained instant visibility into all manufacturing stages. The ERP system's flexibility and U.S.-based support allowed Monti to tailor the solution to its unique operations, resulting in increased efficiency, accuracy and customer satisfaction.

About Monti

Monti is a custom manufacturer specializing in conductors, insulators and steel parts for the electrical industry. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, the company operates in a 245,000-square-foot facility and across multiple subsidiaries, focusing on copper, insulation and sheet metal fabrication, as well as CNC machining and die design. Monti is also ISO 9001:2008 certified.

The Challenge

Monti experienced significant growth in both facility size and operational complexity. Operating within a 245,000-square-foot plant and managing subsidiaries across copper, insulation and sheet metal fabrication, Monti's transition to high-mix, multi-level assembly work exposed the limitations of manual production management. With growing demands for inventory precision, timely order fulfillment and accurate scheduling, the company struggled to maintain control using paper-based systems. This led to inefficiencies, missed operations and challenges in providing real-time status updates to customers.

The Solution

Recognizing the need for a more robust system, Monti evaluated five different ERP solutions before selecting Global Shop Solutions ERP for its comprehensive manufacturing capabilities and adaptability to complex shop floor environments. As Andy Ceddia, Senior Account Manager at Monti, explains, "As we took on more complex jobs involving multi-level BOMs, it became more than one person could handle with paper and pencil. We looked at five different ERP systems and chose Global Shop Solutions ERP software for its out-of-the-box capabilities and flexibility to adapt to our shop floor environment." The implementation allowed Monti to leverage Advanced Planning & Scheduling (APS) to automate job prioritization and execution, supported by move ticket functionality for accurate part tracking across shifts. As Ceddia notes, "APS helps us meet customer due dates by allowing us to assign different priorities to each job. We use APS to schedule what goes into the machines next, but the priorities tell us when to move jobs around or put them in sooner than previously scheduled." The move ticket process was essential for accurate inventory and workflow management: "The move ticket process is especially helpful when jobs overlap shifts. The move tickets identify exactly how many parts were moved to the next operation or finished goods. This gets parts to the right place at the right time and also helps with inventory control." Monti also valued Global Shop Solutions' U.S.-based support and ongoing product innovation.

The Results

Following the deployment of Global Shop Solutions ERP, Monti achieved measurable operational improvements. The company now manages over $1 million in inventory with precision tolerance of .0005 inches, supports a sprawling 245,000-square-foot production facility and has reduced late shipments to near zero. Automated job scheduling through APS ensures optimal machine utilization and adherence to customer deadlines, while move ticket tracking eliminates missed operations and enhances inventory accuracy. Real-time visibility into job and material status empowers staff to make informed decisions and deliver superior customer service. The flexibility of the ERP system, paired with dedicated U.S.-based support, enables Monti to continually refine their processes and sustain growth in a dynamic manufacturing landscape.
