Challenge

Milcut faced mounting operational inefficiencies due to limitations in their legacy UNIX-based software system. The system lacked support for modern technologies, making it increasingly difficult to manage manufacturing operations, integrate new processes and maintain effective communication and documentation. As the business grew, the need for a robust, future-ready ERP platform became critical to address process bottlenecks, speed up order management and enable greater visibility throughout the organization.

Results

With Global Shop Solutions ERP, Milcut realized major improvements in operational processes. The company reduced over 4,000 blueprint links, dramatically cut administrative costs and achieved a notable decrease in paper usage. Enhanced document control, real-time data access and advanced automation led to better shop floor performance and faster order processing, resulting in ongoing cost savings and improved productivity across their operations.

I think Global Shop Solutions is doing a better job in programming when compared with the competition, and the service is better too. The bottom-line is that there’s so much the Global Shop Solutions system is capable of doing, and we’ve found it beneficial to take the time to learn the system so we can make the greatest use of it.

About Milcut

Milcut is a major fabricator of soft and semi-rigid materials headquartered near Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Operating a 100,000-square-foot plant, Milcut has been a key business and employer in the region for over forty years.

The Challenge

Milcut encountered significant challenges as their UNIX-based software system became increasingly outdated. This legacy system could not efficiently support the integration of new manufacturing technologies or the adoption of modern workflow automation. Manual document handling, limited data accessibility and slow communication processes created bottlenecks, impeding the company’s ability to maintain high productivity and support growth objectives over more than forty years in business.

The Solution

Recognizing these limitations, Milcut set out to find a comprehensive ERP platform that would enable them to modernize their operations and capitalize on new technology advancements. After evaluating multiple solutions, Milcut selected Global Shop Solutions ERP for its robust feature set, real-time data capabilities and powerful document control. As John Randall, Manager of Quality and Information Systems, noted, "The reason we came to Global Shop Solutions was that we were running into problems with our UNIX-based software system. We simply couldn’t apply some of the new technologies with that software - at least not very easily or inexpensively." The flexibility of Global Shop Solutions, including advanced planning and customization with the Global Application Builder (GAB), provided Milcut with the tools necessary to automate processes, improve document management and optimize shop floor operations. According to President Carl Strohmaier, "From my perspective, one of the biggest gains in using Global Shop Solutions is that we are starting to run out of activities for the administrative staff to actually do in the office. This is because there is much less paper moving through the office now than before Global Shop Solutions."

The Results

The implementation of Global Shop Solutions ERP delivered substantial benefits to Milcut. The company eliminated over 4,000 blueprint links, significantly reduced administrative costs and minimized paper usage throughout their facility. Automated workflows and enhanced document control improved shop floor efficiency and accelerated order processing times. Ongoing software updates and a responsive support team ensured that Milcut stayed ahead of industry changes and continued to improve processes. John Randall added, "Global Shop Solutions is updating their software constantly and they simply do a better job at it than their competitors. You have a situation where many companies update once a year and they consider that as a lot. But with Global Shop Solutions, you’re seeing major positive changes practically every quarter, which I think is great." These advancements have positioned Milcut for sustained growth, improved cost efficiency and long-term competitiveness in the fabrication industry.
