Challenge

Metalia faced significant operational challenges as its legacy, custom-built ERP system became increasingly inadequate for its expanding manufacturing needs. As the company grew, the existing system struggled to handle the complexities of managing over 15,000 product SKUs, three production plants, and a diverse client base. Frequent workarounds and patches had to be implemented, which led to inconsistent data, inefficient inventory control, and reduced shop floor efficiency. The limitations of the system hindered Metalia's ability to maintain real-time data visibility and support best-in-class manufacturing practices.

Results

With the implementation of Global Shop Solutions ERP, Metalia realized substantial improvements in inventory management, data accuracy, and shop floor organization. Inventory accuracy reached approximately 100%, and the company gained improved control over raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods. Operations became more efficient, resulting in increased finished goods output and reduced material waste. Enhanced system usability and standardized processes facilitated faster training and empowered employees with immediate access to reliable data. These advances have positioned Metalia for continued operational excellence and scalability.

As we got to know the company, which is also family owned, we discovered we spoke the same language and shared similar values. We didn’t want to be looking for another ERP system in five or 10 years, and Global Shop Solutions felt like the perfect fit in terms of both the product and the company.

About Metalia

Metalia is a family-owned contract manufacturer based in Monterrey, Mexico, specializing in precision sheet metal fabrication for industries such as automotive, lighting, HVAC, mining, oil and gas and aerospace. With about 850 employees and three production plants, Metalia is ISO 9001:2008 certified and serves both domestic and global clients.

The Challenge

Metalia needed agile, precise control over its manufacturing processes. Its custom-built ERP system could not keep pace with the company's rapid growth, requiring frequent manual interventions and workarounds. Managing 15,000+ product SKUs across three production plants and a 97,000 sq ft facility, Metalia struggled with inconsistent data, limited real-time inventory visibility and inefficient shop floor operations. These obstacles impacted productivity and prevented the company from achieving its full potential in a competitive, quality-driven industry.

The Solution

Recognizing the need for a more robust, manufacturing-focused ERP, Metalia evaluated solutions that could deliver deep inventory control, accurate data and scalability. The company selected Global Shop Solutions ERP for its manufacturing-centric features and user-friendly interface. According to Project Manager Patricio Narro, "Global Shop Solutions is simpler and better than what we had before, especially the user interfaces. People can quickly find the data they need to perform their jobs. And we can count on the data being accurate and consistent throughout the system." After implementation, Metalia MS leveraged standardized processes, advanced inventory control and real-time data access to drive immediate operational improvements.

The Results

Since deploying Global Shop Solutions ERP, Metalia MS has achieved near 100% inventory accuracy and dramatically improved control over raw materials, work-in-progress and finished goods. The company now manages over 15,000 product SKUs with confidence, supporting its 850 employees and multi-plant operations. "We have much better control over all aspects of inventory, including raw materials, WIP and finished goods. We’re miles ahead of where we were with our old system," says Patricio Narro. Shop floor organization and communication have improved, with data consistency enabling informed decision-making. "Now, everything gets put in its proper place and we know where to find it with close to 100% accuracy." Ongoing adoption of advanced features, like custom dashboards and reporting, continues to enhance shop floor efficiency and support Metalia's commitment to operational excellence.
