About your Customer
FabCorp is a Houston, Texas-based manufacturer operating an 80,000-square-foot facility with over 100 machines and hundreds of employees. They produce proprietary metal products and fulfill a high volume of job shop orders across machining, fabrication, welding and finishing. The Challenge
With a diverse product mix in machining, fabrication, welding and finishing, FabCorp needed to capture accurate time and attendance, coordinate complex scheduling and maintain optimal inventory levels. Disconnected processes and data silos created challenges in achieving operational efficiency, increasing indirect costs and limiting visibility into real-time shop floor activities.
The Solution
Seeking a comprehensive and integrated system, FabCorp evaluated several ERP solutions and ultimately chose Global Shop Solutions for its manufacturing-specific capabilities and ease of use. According to Jim Morris, VP of Operations: "Global Shop Solutions is a rugged system, and it’s very friendly to the metalworking business we’re in." The company deployed modules for scheduling, shop floor data collection and quality control, enabling planners and operators to work from a single source of truth. As Morris notes: "APS is an advanced tool, and it’s helped us see better our operation and how it’s connected through its various parts. Global Shop Solutions APS requires that everyone think about the big picture, which is nice because it gives the planners a more conscious view of what’s going on in the shop." Widespread adoption was driven by the system’s user-friendly interface, accessible to both shop floor and administrative staff.
The Results
With Global Shop Solutions ERP in place, FabCorp realized significant operational improvements. The company now manages 4,000–5,000 concurrent work orders with real-time visibility, precise scheduling and integrated inventory management, empowering over 50 active users across the facility. As Jim Morris shared: "For me, the work in progress screens, especially with the colored graphics display, allows me to see who’s working on a job and who’s not. With Global Shop Solutions, it’s pretty easy to read time and attendance and to see where labor costs are being wasted, and this is very important for us." The solution also fostered a culture of continuous improvement: "Global Shop Solutions is easy to use and it’s an efficient system, and there’s no doubt that the ease of use has made the system used pretty widely by all of the employees here. Everybody in the shop, in the accounting and administrative offices -- everybody’s on Global Shop Solutions." FabCorp achieved lower indirect costs, improved labor utilization and a unified platform supporting both production and front-office operations, positioning the company for sustained growth and manufacturing excellence.
